Hello! My name is Grant Keller, a new teacher at Manzanita! I grew up in Simi Valley, CA. I am lucky because a lot of my family lives nearby. I have a little sister named Julie who is also working at a school this year. She is an after school program director in Washington D.C. I love sports, especially the LA Lakers. In college, I worked for recreation district as a basketball coach. My dream day would be to go out to brunch with family, walk through Harry Potter world, then go to a Justin Timberlake concert. That would be awesome.
I grew my passion for teaching while attending college at California State University, Chico. I chose to pursue teaching because I had great teachers in elementary school, but the moment I knew I wanted to be a teacher was after I finished a program called “Special Pals.” I worked with a 5th grade boy and sat with him during class. The connection that I felt with him gave me inspiration to be an educator. If I saw my Special Pal, I would thank him for helping me find my path.
Now, I am so excited to be a 5th grade teacher at Manzanita! I appreciate how the school is student-centered, relationship driven, and seeking out engaging ways to teach scholars. I want all scholars to know that I believe in them. They are going to be change-makers that will make me proud to be their teacher. Let the learning begin!
