I was born in Chicago, Illinois; from the time I was in second grade I always wanted to teach. I attended Illinois State University and graduated with a BA in Education. Later I received my Masterís Degree in Teacher Leadership from Lamar University.
I began my teaching career in San Antonio, TX where I met my husband. He was an officer in the Air Force, so we moved often. Moving gave me the opportunity to teach for the Department of Defense in Panama and North Carolina, as well as public schools in Florida and California.
This breadth of experience was unique and gave me many opportunities to observe, learn, and implement various teaching techniques. I believe I have been able to take the best parts of these experiences and utilize them to reach my scholars and mentor other teachers in ways that work best. This is my 24th year of teaching and I am thrilled to call Manzanita my home.
